Elderhostel is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing extraordinary learning adventures for people 55 and over. With nearly 8,000 offerings, Elderhostel programs cover just about every interest, topic and theme imaginable. A few of the offerings each year involve trail maintenance, and these can be identified from the Elderhostel Web page by checking the left column under "Programs". Go from there to "By Interest", and this will lead to a long list - pick "Service Learning". The resulting pages give brief descriptions of these offerings, which in 2008 numbered 49 programs. By surfing through titles, there are only two which involve trail maintenance in 2008: "Adirondack Park Trail Maintenance and Reconstruction" and "Mammoth Lakes Forest Service Project". Further examination will provide detailed particulars of skill levels, accommodations, and cost. Registration can be done on-line.
