29 Aug - 7 Sep 2011, Mon - 2nd Wed. Harriet Lake. Humboldt-Toiyabe NF: Bridgeport RD, near Bridgeport, CA. Four volunteer positions are available to work with a Student Conservation Association led crew. Project will entail heavy tread maintenance and rock reconstruction of check steps, rip-rap, and reinforced drain dips. Camping will be backcountry, hiking distance 9 miles, but with pack assistance for tools and kitchen supplies. Fitness Requirement: Level 3. Advanced fitness levels. Project may include backpacking, a 2 to 3-mile hiking distance from camp to project site, significant elevation change, strenuous work activities and/or need for prior backcountry experience. Suitable for fit volunteers looking for a physical challenge. Other Things To Do in the Area: Entire backcountry area for hiking, swimming (although cold water), exploration. Questions?
