25 Mar - 3 Apr 2011, Fri - 2nd Sun. May include other optional dates in-between. Oak Creek Canyon. BLM Ridgecrest, near Tehachapi, CA. Five volunteer positions are available for working with the Student Conservation Association crew. You can choose between working the full project or joining it on just the weekend, or even one-day projects on 26 or 27 March. The crew will primarily be widening the corridor for the first couple of miles north of Highway 58. This will include basic trail maintenance, including brushing, benching, drainage maintenance and installation, and bucking out blowdowns south from Tehachapi Willow Springs Rd for approximately 4.5 miles. Check dam installation may be possible and the crew will need to spend some time signing the trail in the area of Pitney Canyon. No prior trail experience is necessary. Tools, training, and meals will be provided. Car camping will be at a front country camp which varies from 2 to 4.5 miles from the project site. Intermediate fitness levels; project may include moderate elevation change over 500 feet and/or moderately physical work activities. Other things to do? wild horses frequent this area. Questions?
