3 - 9 Sep 2010, Fri - Thu. Jug Lake 2. Gifford Pinchot NF, Near Packwood, WA. Located in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, near the town of Packwood, WA, volunteers will have the opportunity to join the Northwest Service Academy AmeriCorps crew to restore a section of the PCT and feeder trails near Jug and Frying Pan Lakes in the William O Douglas Wilderness. They will be repairing drainage using de-berming, waterbars, check step and drain dips. The crew will meet on the evening of 3 Sep and camp near the trailhead. The following day they will backpack 4 mi to a backcountry camp at Jug Lake with the assistance of Pack stock. The daily hike to the worksite will be between 1/4 and 2 mi. No experience necessary; tools, training, and meals will be provided. This project is recommended for volunteers with advanced fitness levels due to significant elevation change and/or strenuous work activities. Advance registration is required.
