10 - 14 Oct 2011, Mon - Fri. Sacagawea. Columbia River Gorge NSA, near Stevenson, WA. This will be a fun one! Join an Americorps crew in replacing two 20-ft stock bridges. We'll be removing the old bridges, moving stringers, peeling logs, planking the new bridge, and building gabion landings. Ten volunteer positions are available; leaders will be NWSA Americorps staff. Camping is at a developed campground. Hiking distance to project site is 3 miles. Fitness Requirement: Level 3. Advanced fitness levels. Project may include longer hikes of 5 miles or more, backpacking, significant elevation change, strenuous work activities and/or need for prior backcountry experience.
