26 Sep - 4 Oct 2011, Mon - 2nd Tue. North Diamond Peak #2. Deschutes NF: Crescent RD, near Crescent, OR. This is Diamond Peak's year! Join an Americorps crew for one or both tours to the northern sections of Diamond Peak to embark upon a major tread reconstruction project. This drainage overhaul will include replacing old water bars, re-cutting and rebenching tread, installing check steps, and more. Meals, training, and safety equipment provided. Five volunteer positions are available; leaders will be NWSA Americorps staff. Camping is backcountry; pack stock assistance used for tools and kitchen supplies. Hiking distance to camp is 7 miles. Hiking distance to project site is 0.5 to 2 miles. Fitness Requirement: Level 3. Advanced fitness levels. Project may include backpacking, significant elevation change, strenuous work activities and/or need for prior backcountry experience. Suitable for fit volunteers looking for a physical challenge.
