19 - 25 Jul 2009, Sun - Sat. Meiss Meadow. USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Desolation Wilderness. (10 Volunteers, Work Level Difficult, Backpacking.) This project concentrates on a section of the Pacific Crest Trail where it enters the Lake Tahoe Basin north from Carson Pass. Work will include stream bank stabilization and reconstruction of structures where the trail crosses the headwaters of the Truckee River. The work includes building new step pads where the trail enters and exits the stream combined with anchoring stepping stones within the creek to provide a dry crossing for pedestrians. The step pads will be constructed in a way to provide a safe and sustainable trail also for equestrians. Adjoining stream banks will also be reinforced and rehabilitated from previous damage. A nearby turnpike through a wet section of the meadow will be reconstructed, crushes and filled with rock and crowned with a new tread surface of soil. The meadows and nearby Meiss lake are at an elevation of 8300 ft. Sign up using AHS Registration Page.
