4 - 6 Jun 2010, Fri - Sun. High Cascade Forest Volunteers Trail Skills College. Camp Sherman. Trail enthusiasts who have always wondered about how hiking trails are built or how to stabilize a crumbling slope are invited to the Trails Skills College, 4-6 June 2010 at Allingham Fire Guard Station in Camp Sherman (Near Sisters). The joint training and certification program is hosted by the High Cascade Forest Volunteers (HCFV) and the PCTA. instructors will be drawn from the trail volunteer community, PCTA staff, and from National Forest Service personnel. In addition to the Trail Skills College, certification courses are offered in First Aid, CPR, and saw certification. Tent camping is provided on the guard station grounds; RVs can be parked on the property but there is no hook-up or power available. Due to the remote location, A full meal service is provided. Sanitation is restricted to porta-potties and hand washing stations. All sessions are out door, rain or shine on low elevation trails in the Deschutes National Forest. The event runs from Fri noon to Sun pm with a 4-hr session on Fri and 8-hr sessions on the weekend. See: Curriculum Overview .
