PCT: Pacific Crest Trail Association, Columbia Cascades Region
pct5-01

16 - 18 Apr 2010, Fri - Sun. Trail Keepers of Oregon Trail Skills College. Columbia Gorge. Trail enthusiasts who have always wondered about how hiking trails are built or how to stabilize a crumbling slope are invited to the Trails Skills College 16-18 April 2010 in Cascade Locks. For those concerned with the declining state of hiking trails, this will be a chance to get outside and have fun helping to save our trails. This will be the first of three Joint Trails Skills College training events, and is hosted by the Trail Keepers of Oregon and the PCTA. Its location will attract volunteers from Washington State and the greater Portland area. A mixture of classroom and field sessions is planned, with field classes conducted on nearby trails in the Gorge area. Instructors will be drawn from the trail volunteer community, PCTA staff, and from National Forest Service personnel. Tent camping will be offered on an island in the river and the City RV park is available at no fee for attendees. Breakfasts and evening meals are provided. The event runs from Fri noon to Sun pm with a 4-hr session on Fri and 8-hr sessions on the weekend. See: Curriculum Overview .
