14 May 2011, Sat. Baum Lake Training. Lassen NF: Hat Creek Ranger District, near Burney, CA. Volunteers will participate in a one day basic trail skills training while working the PCT north from Baum Lake on the Lassen NF. The goal of the training/project will be to introduce participants to safe tool usage, safe trail maintenance techniques as well as trail maintenance principles and vocabulary. The project will consist of maintaining the trail tread and brushing the corridor while learning these concepts. Eight volunteer positions are available; trail crew leader is Val Sokolovski, PCTA Staff. Fitness Requirement: Level 2. Intermediate fitness levels. Project may include moderate hiking of 1 - 3 miles from camp to the project site, moderate elevation change over 500 ft and/or moderately physical work activities. This level is suitable for most volunteers who are in good physical condition. Most people who are physically active can perform at this level. Questions? Ready to register?
