18 - 20 Mar 2011, Fri - Sun. Belden Brushing and Logout. Plumas NF, near Belden, CA. The Backcountry Horsemen of California - Sutter Buttes Unit will be hosting a volunteer event wherein equestrians and hikers will join forces to clear a stretch of PCT north of Hwy 70. You may volunteer as either an equestrian or as a hiker volunteer for the full 3 days or for individual days. Equestrians will range ahead of hiker trail workers on each day to log out, while hikers will then brush and clear the trail corridor. Worksite will be in a fire burn with minimal shade available, starting at 2400 ft. and with daily 2 plus miles hike from camp. Daytime temps should be cool. No experience is necessary to perform brushing; equestrians will need to be chainsaw certified. Volunteers will camp at the Ganser Bar Fire Station just east of Belden. Drinking water, showers, and bathrooms are available, as is trailer and RV parking w/o hookups. Volunteers will need to provide their own meals throughout the duration of the project; a restaurant is near the camp location. Please have stout work shoes and adequate clothing against possible cool days and brushy trail. Rain forecast cancels project. Contact Ralph Looney and indicate the days you wish to participate, Tel.: 530-674-2066.
