29 June - 5 July 2011, Wed - Tue. 13th Annual Reds Meadow Trail Project. Inyo NF, Mammoth RD. Backcountry Horsemen of CA and PCTA volunteers will come together for fence work, log out, trash removal, and brushing on the PCT and surrounding wilderness trails. Base camp at the Reds Meadow pack station/corrals. Hike 3 mi or more to worksite depending upon chosen work activity. Tasks will suit all fitness and experience levels; no prior trail work experience required. All food, tools, safety equipment and instruction provided. Volunteers Bring own camping gear, husky boots and long sleeved shirts and long pants - liberal fair weather clothing policy will be in effect. Come for one day or several, or the full 7 days; first served meal is Wed dinner, last is Tue breakfast. Reds/Postpile access fee is waived for volunteers, and participants for at least 3 days will be offered a season pass. Reds Meadow General Store area amenities include a cafe and rental cabins. A fee shuttle bus runs to Mammoth Lakes. Hot springs and a free-use warm water bathhouse is nearby. An optional 3-day and 2-night side project for the adventurous is in planning, ask about it.
