The trail crew was smaller than usual. We lacked the crew size which would have permitted two GripHoist crews to operate at once. The packers from the BCHC Eastern Sierra and Antelope Valley units hauled the heavy equipment, tools, water, and spike camp provisions on the first two days, and hauled it back out on the final two days. They also did trail work alongside the regular crew. These images show the base camp and the trail worksite. Pete, Jerry, Don, and Campy are shown in the crew, and Dick, Dennis, and Paul are packers. Bill helped pack in early and worked part of the week, and Doris, Sandy, and Pat worked with the crew during the week. Sometimes the weather was windy and cold, with rain and fog on occasion. |
