The Superior Hiking Trail Association builds and maintains the Superior Hiking Trail, a 235-mile long-distance footpath on the rocky ridgeline high above Lake Superior, the world's largest freshwater lake. The trail has been named one of the top ten trails in the country by Backpacker magazine. The SHTA has recently completed 39 miles of trail through the forests and ridges of Duluth and is now building 30 miles of trail between Two Harbors and Duluth. Trail-building and maintenance work projects for volunteers are scheduled throughout the season. It's a wonderful opportunity to spend some time helping a beautiful trail.
