The San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders is an all-volunteer trail building and maintenance non-profit organization. The SGMT works mainly under supervision and advice of the US Forest Service personnel within the San Gabriel River district in Southern CA. A special capability of the Trailbuiders is rock excavation and removal using either normal hand tools with a Griphoist and bars, or where permitted, a Pionjar rock drill is available for their use. Projects frequently include participation by local scouting, high school, church, and outdoor environmental groups. The SGMT works all year long on a fixed schedule of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturday of each month. Volunteers are welcome, but will need to supply own gloves, sturdy boots, water, and a bag lunch.
