The Rachel Carson Trail is a hiking trail north and east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, spanning 35.7 miles (57.4 kilometers) from Harrison Hills County Park in the extreme northeast corner of Allegheny County, to North Park in the north-central area of the county. The Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), volunteer-based organization dedicated to the development, protection, and promotion of hiking, biking, and walking trails throughout western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1992 as the Harmony Trails Council, it later chose to adopt the Rachel Carson Trail and the Baker Trail. At the same time, the Council voted to change its name to the Rachel Carson Trails Conservancy to better reflect its broader mission. "Rachel Carson Trail Maintenance Days" are held periodically; check the Web page under "upcoming events".
