The Mount St. Helens Institute's mission is to awaken in people of all ages an appreciation of the natural processes and cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest's volcanic landscapes. The MSHI has a variety of programs and projects to fit all volunteers needs. MSHI has a long history of managing volunteer trail maintenance projects but is beginning its first year (2010) of managing seasonal crews. Project work includes construction of trail structures, re-grading, trail bed repair, invasive species removal, re-vegetation and drainage projects in remote and rugged areas of the Monument and GPNF.
