Formed in 1994, the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative is a partnership among nonprofit organizations, concerned individuals, and public agencies, to protect and preserve the natural integrity of Colorado's Fourteeners and the quality of the recreational opportunities they provide. Volunteer crews work out of backcountry and trailhead base camps to build trails, reclaim erosion scars, and complete other important fieldwork. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older unless accompanied by a legal guardian, in excellent physical condition, and be available to work for the complete length of the project. No prior trail construction or restoration experience is required but previous backcountry experience is desired. Crews are limited to 10 volunteers when working in wilderness areas with larger crews permitted when outside wilderness areas. Volunteers apply in advance for each project.
