Since 1986, ADK has worked closely with the the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to help maintain trails and provide over 3,200 volunteers the opportunity to give something back to the land while working in a beautiful section of the Adirondack and Catskill Forest Preserves. ADK has a unique opportunity through its chapters and the expertise of its members to provide to the public and its members opportunities to visit some of the most beautiful, yet also most fragile, wild areas in New York State and surrounding areas.

Volunteer programs are vital to the Adirondack Mountain Club because of the important work that ADK accomplishes in the community through its mission: "... the protection and responsible recreational use of the New York State Forest Preserve, parks, and other wild lands and waters." Volunteer Program.
