The Alpine Club was formed in 1953 as a way of maintaining the newly formed Loyalsock Trail (LT). The LT is a footpath which begins on PA Route 87, 9.0 miles north of the Route 87-Montoursville Exit from Interstate 180 (US ROUTE 220) and ends at the parking lot on Meade Road, .2 miles from US Route 220. The LT is a member of the Keystone Trails Association, and also supports the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy (which does not offer trail work projects). Today the club maintains the trail through a series of work hikes in the spring, but also has monthly hikes in northeastern Pennsylvania throughout the rest of the year.
